A deep tissue massage does require pressure and can be slightly uncomfortable at times, but it should never hurt. If you experience pain during your deep tissue massage, be sure to let your massage therapist know so she can reduce the amount of pressure she is using. You may also be a little sore after your massage.
A properly administered deep tissue massage can help relieve pain and discomfort in your neck, back, and limbs. While you may feel some relief during or immediately after your deep tissue massage, it can sometimes take several massage sessions for your knots, tight muscles, and pain to go away.
Be sure to drink plenty of water before and after your massage to prevent cramping. You may need to ice certain muscles or stretch and exercise them before you go to bed for the night and when you wake up the next day. If you need to do anything else, your massage therapist will let you know.
A deep tissue massage is different from other types of massages because it requires more pressure and intensity. If a traditional massage is not enough to relieve your pain and discomfort, a deep tissue massage may be a better option.
